European Sign Summit at Fespa 2010 to Shed Light on Opportunities

Content-rich one day summit programmen will debate the issues and promote best practices at European Sign Summit 2010, details of which have been published by FESPA. It is being co-hosted with the European Sign Federation (ESF) during FESPA 2010 in Munich (22-26 June 2010).

The aim of the European Sign Summit is to provide sign makers, or service providers looking to develop their sign making expertise, with high quality information on key issues affecting their business. A host of leading industry thinkers will share their ideas and expertise on current and future trends, the challenges confronting the industry, potential opportunities and sources of innovation.

Delegates will participate in sessions focussing on four key topics i.e. matching light sources to application. Effective use of Corporate Identity in Signage , Case study: the Automotive Industry and The 'Dark Skies' Challenge.

The event will open with a keynote session to be delivered by David Pitt, CEO of the Principle Group, an international brand implementation company that brings global brands to life in any environment, anywhere in the world. David's expertise is in turning brand concepts into reality, translating ideas into three dimensions. David and other speakers will address burning questions such as: what threat does price competition from overseas suppliers represent? Is the environmental agenda a threat or an opportunity for sign makers? What forthcoming EU legislation will impact on your business in the next twelve months, and how?

Other speakers at the European Sign Summit include ESF Vice President and sign making pioneer Luc Steegmans; Wouter Moons, Co-founder of Belgian printed electronics specialist Lumoza; international light source expert Dr Spiros Kitsinelis; and Italian sign, engineering and R&D expert Fausto Martin. Dark Skies campaigner Friedel Pas of the International Dark Sky Association will step into the fray, engaging with the audience of senior sign professionals on the topic of light pollution and best lighting practices.

Commenting on the launch of the European Sign Summit at FESPA 2010, FESPA Managing Director Frazer Chesterman says: “ESF and FESPA recognise the increasing convergence between the print and sign industries, which has become more apparent in today's challenging climate. Companies can no longer solely concentrate on their primary activities; they need to look at complementary services and products that enable them to provide complete and innovative solutions for clients. ESF's knowledge of the sign industry, teamed with FESPA's expertise in running successful high quality summits for the imaging industry, means the European Sign Summit is set to be an imperative event for the road to recovery and future success.”

The European Sign Summit sessions will be followed by a panel discussion inviting interaction between delegates and speakers, and will conclude with an opportunity for delegates to network informally. The event will be conducted in English, with simultaneous translation available by advance request into French, German, Italian and Spanish.

CPI - Where History and Design Meet

Being of great importance for the Turkish fashion and ready-to-wear world, CPI Collection Première Istanbul will be held at Taskisla Campus of ITU (Istanbul Technical University) on August 26-28, 2010 under the organisation of ITKIB (Istanbul Textile & Apparel Exporters' Association) and in cooperation with IGEDO.

Also supported by the associations acting in ready-to-wear and apparel industry, CPI will be oranised with the help of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. With CPI, going beyond the ordinary, Turkey will make a remarkable step towards being a fashion designing country, rather than fashion producing country.

The place and date of CPI has been be announced by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB), who was instrumental for inclusion of Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW) into the calendar of world fashion weeks, together with IGEDO Company, which has already agreed to it. CPI which is expected to serve as the link for integration of the Turkish garment industry with global world markets, will be held at Taskisla Campus of ITU at August 26-28, 2010, simultaneously with the Istanbul Fashion Week.

CPI, which will establish a remarkable essence in the world fashion arena as serving a cultural and Fashion Bridge between the Middle East and the Europe, will enable the distinguished national and international fashion brands and designers to conclude commercial deals by exhibiting their collections for spring and summer 2011. The fact that CPI activity is organised in Turkey, one of the most important producing countries of the world textile and prêt-a-porter sector and in Istanbul, the city located among the most developing markets in the world, will offer a unique opportunity for preeminent Turkish prêt-a-porter companies, who do not have the chance to participate in exhibitions held abroad, to exhibit their design-oriented collections to international visitors. It is anticipated that 40 percent of total fair area with around 7000 square meter net exhibition space will be allocated for international brands and designers. Turkish design-oriented prêt-a-porter brands and designers are expected to make reservations as soon as possible. The display booths offered for sale in May have already attracted attention of a number brands such as Noir, Triumph, Falke, Bugatti, Burlington, Tally Weijl, Roeckl, Caramelo and Helmut Lang.

Hikmet Tanrıverdi, HIKIB Chairman says “CPI will bedazzle all and we will be among the first five in global fashion league!” In the press conference, participated also by Mirjam Dietz, Executive Fashion Director of IGEDO Company, he added that Turkish fashion industry witnessed a rapid change, development and transformation in the last quarter of the century when a number of Turkish brands grew at an incredible speed and achieved great success. “Today we are not only a country that produces but also creates and designs fashion and are effective both in domestic and international markets. Turkish fashion industry is out of its shell. With our hundreds of thousands of workers, with the export value reaching 20 billion USD and all other powerful dynamics, we follow a brand new route taking us to safe harbours. With each step we take, each project we achieve we get even closer to our objectives,” said Tanrıverdi.

Hikmet Tanrıverdi emphasized that CPI and Istanbul Fashion Week will attract global attention to Turkey and that it is their faith in the industry's power of knowledge, design and production which encouraged them to make such bold decisions. We are proud of our brand power “We have always been excited to see 'Made in Turkey' tags on international brands, which indicates our production power but we are not that much affected by it any more, because today we are happy to have a brand power along with it. This is because we live in an unprecedented age today. Turkish brands have nearly 2000 stores in around 70 countries all around the globe. As our entrepreneurs sell their lines, they contribute to the power of Turkey as a brand, too. On another note, the world's top 40 purchasing groups that buy a minimum of 7-8 million USD worth of ready wear from Turkey each year will come to Istanbul for a conference next week and they are counting days to meet out manufacturers and suppliers. And now two big events entering international fair and fashion calendar and making an impression all around the world are crowning our achievement. Collection and design oriented Turkish prêt a porter sector will enter a new phase in CPI.

IHKIB Chairman Hikmet Tanrıverdi remarked that CPI will boost the power of Turkish textile and fashion industry's competitive power with this distinguished fair positioned also to have commercial outcomes although it runs parallel with a concept of show. He summarized their goals as taking Istanbul to the first five in global fashion industry and stated that they have the background, courage and faith required to accomplish this goal.

Mrs Mirjam Dietz, Fashion Executive Director of IGEDO Company, said:” Organisation of this event, which has been already organised in Moscow and Düsseldorf for long years, this time in Istanbul will be a new breath for both the Turkish and world fashion industry. We already see the signs that CPI will be a great success. We are very pleased that distinguished European brands make their application for participation in CPI. We are sure that the distinguished Turkish brands who wish to become one of the world's reputable brands and to exhibit their own collections to the top quality visitors of the event feel the same enthusiasm.”
