We are on surer grounds today that the world economy is picking up, if one were to go by the apparel orders that are flowing in. The uncertainty whether the flow of orders that had fitfully been flowing in will develop into a regular flow of work, is no more, now. This indeed augurs well.
This pleasant state of affairs is likely to further improve with what the world concedes as a heartening news of China unshackling the Yuan. This can help appreciating the Yuan that had been pegged for the last 23 months. As our readers are aware, the US had been accusing China of keeping the Yuan under-valued, which, it argued, is the primary reason for high trade deficit the US runs with China.
Though this may not end the bickering; it will most certainly provide a cooling off period, since US would be closely watching what would be the pace of appreciation of Yuan, on which, the garments exporters in India would be equally interested. How much will Yuan appreciate and how it is going to impact Indian garment exports have been discussed, in a detailed and candid manner in our Cover Story. To our judgement, whatever degree of appreciation Yuan might undergo, we, as all other nations in the world, including our competitors, would stand to benefit. You will see a constant war of nerves between the US and China; with the former pressing hard for allowing more liberal movement of Yuan, while the latter has already cautioned that it would allow a gradual appreciation of Yuan. For knowing the dramatic unfolding of this important decision, which was disclosed in a very unusual manner by Chinese Ministry of External Affairs in a specially called meeting of all ambassadors in Peking on 20 June and its ramifications, you need to go through the Cover Story of the month, “Yuan Defreezed : A Positive Move”. We would keep our readers posted on the developments and trends on this.
There are a number of international trade fairs in near and not so near future, but everyone is interested in keeping the prospective exhibitors and business visitors informed on new additions being made by the organizers in order to sustain their interest. Mode City and Interfiliere have re-positioned themselves at the beginning of the season, while ITMA 2011 has decided to expand by including Research and Education Pavilion. Collection Premiere, Moscow is rightly boasting of having successfully roped in more exhibitors.
Then, a review of Motehxa reveals that it continued to drive fashion and apparel sourcing in the Middle East. Both the exhibitors and business visitors were happy with their participation and the survey conducted in the course of the fair confirms that an overwhelming majority of the participants would join in again. The 7th edition of Techtextil North America took place on May 18-20 at Georgia World Congress Centre in Atlanta, Georgia as a part of co-location efforts with ATME-I and SPESA EXPO, which helped all stakeholders.
Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) seems to have taken an initiative on Common Compliance Code, as a solution for multiple compliance accreditations. What is it; why it should be and above all, what needs to be done to promote and execute this programme has been discussed in this issue. Readers should find the write-up interesting.
We have included Trends on Colour and Fabrics for Fall/Winter 201-12, which should be of interest to our readers.
We hope that the recovery as evidenced by the growing inflow of orders for garment exporters would continue.
