Why this Event?

Embroidery continues to be much sought after as a preferred value addition component providing an edge to the textiles and garments. In order to provide a credible platform for showcasing creativity and providing recognition to the companies or individuals involved in the embroidery business, The Stitch Times has thoughtfully announced this contest. This contest aims to boost healthy competition and interaction among the embroidery fraternity in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.



USP

It is the first effort of its kind aimed at promoting excellence and elevating embroidery to the stature of an art. This contest provides the only forum to give full-throated expression to creativity and excellence in embroidery.

Since The Stitch Times being not only the first but also the only trade publication devoted and committed to promoting embroidery in this part of the world, it could be the only appropriate forum for such a contest.

Contest Categories

For Schiffli :
  1. Home Textiles (including cushions, curtains, towels, quilts etc.)

  2. Sarees

  3. Salwar Suits

  4. All - over / Border embroidery

  5. Laces
For Single/Multi-head :
  1. Ready Goods (including shirts, dresses, knitwear, caps, bags etc.)

  2. Home Textiles (including cushions, curtains, towels, quilts etc.)

  3. Sarees

  4. Salwar Suits

  5. Creative application (including wall decoration and embroidery on nonconventional items, embroidery

Participation Procedure

All the participants would be required to submit their creations along with the duly filled Participation Form. The entries can be submitted in person, via post or courier. Last date of acceptance of entries is 5th December, 2008. All the entries would be displayed at a private exhibition on 13-14 December at New Delhi. Contestants are not obliged to be present at the exhibition.

Terms & Conditions :
  1. Any individual or organisation can submit entries for all the categories, but not more than one entry for each category.

  2. An undertaking would be required by all participants that their entry is an original creation by them. Winners would be required to submit the original punching / digitizing file as a proof of their creation which would be returned immediately upon verification.

  3. Decision of the judges would be final and binding. No correspondence will be entertained in respect of unsuccessful entries.

  4. All entries must be 100% machine made (single/multi-head or schiffli). However, additional decorative work involving beads, crystals etc. attached by hand, is permitted.

  5. All disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of Delhi courts alone.

Evaluation of Entries

On 13th December (on the first day of the exhibition), after the evaluation the names of the winners would be declared. The evaluation of the entries would be done by eminent professionals chosen from across the textile and garmenting spectrum including designers, technology, fashion and embroidery experts. Three Grand Winners would also be chosen among the winners of various categories.

Judges :
The evaluation of the entries would be done by eminent professionals chosen from across the textile and garmenting spectrum including designers, buyers, technology institutes and embroidery experts among others.

Evaluation Criteria :
All entries will be adjudged as per the following criteria :
  1. Creativity and Originality – in terms of use of material and originality of idea.

  2. Punching Technique – application of techniques and overall quality of punching.

  3. Presentation – in terms of neatness, visual impact, usage of colours.

  4. To ensure transparency in the evaluation process, all entries would be given specially assigned category codes as references. There would be no mention of the individual/company or even the country of origin, till the winners are declared.
NOTE : In order to give sufficient time to the winners for their travel preparations (reservations, visa etc.), the award giving ceremony would be held on 17th Jan. 2009.


Between multi-head and schiffli, there will be three prizes (Winner, Runner-up and Second Runner-up) in each of the ten categories.
The prize distribution would be done by eminent personalities of the apparel industry at a grand function where members of the press from main stream newspapers and TV channels would be present for coverage.
In addition to the trophies, Grand winners would be given a complimentary 2-night hotel stay along with return airfare (economy class). The second runnerup among the Grand winners would be given oneway airfare along with 2-night hotel stay.
Contest trophies are being designed by SWAROVSKI.
